Store Manager
jared@barharborbike.com

Originally from Southern Maine, Jared grew up the youngest of three boys, which means hand me down bikes were a part of his childhood . A passion for bicycles was born then, fixing and rebuilding them into rideable bikes.  In college, Jared worked for L.L Bean selling bicycles and learning about bike shop culture. After attending Unity College in Maine and earning a bachelor’s degree in Adventure Education and Leadership, Jared moved to Bar Harbor to work as a Sea Kayak Guide and manage a local bike rental shop.  Jared has been a resident on Mount Desert Island for many years and has lived a life filled with cycling, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities.  Being part of the island community is something Jared is grateful for and doesn’t take for granted.

Jared enjoys sharing his knowledge of Acadia National Park and the outdoors. He is also a registered Maine guide and has experience leading multiple types of tours on Mount Desert Island and in the state of Maine. He is excited to be a part of The  Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop and continue the legacy of being “The” Bike Shop of Bar Harbor Maine. Jared hopes to see you in the shop during your visit to Bar Harbor, If not in the shop he’ll see ya on the trail.

Service Technician
shop@barharborbike.com

My name is Sean Smith and I’m from Jacksonville, FL. I got into bikes through a friend from college. He was into vintage bikes and encouraged me to get one so we could commute to work together. Doing so opened my eyes to viewing bikes as more than just for kids and athletes, but as a means for fun and practical transportation. This led me to becoming a bike mechanic while living in Las Vegas, NV. And as chance would have it, the new owner of The Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop, Peter, came into the Vegas shop and asked me if I knew anyone that would want to move to Maine for the summer and work at the shop up there. I saw it as a golden opportunity and seized it. I enjoyed the shop and community so much I decided to extend the offer and haven’t looked back.

Matt Swett
Service Writer / Service Technician
shop@barharborbike.com

Our Service Writer, Matthew Swett, is a Maine native and has over 20 years of shop experience. He loves riding gravel and mountain bikes in Maine and across the Rocky Mountains. He also loves nature and, if tide pools are your jam, he knows the spots!

Say hello to Henry, our Official Shop Dog and Assistant Manager of Smiles. This is Henry’s 3rd season as our shop dog. He’s an English Lab who is an expert at greeting visitors with a tail wag and loves hugs and ear scratches. His favorite part of the shop is lying in the sunny spot by the front door and assisting with dog treat orders for our furry guests. He will be very busy this season showing his younger brother, Edward, the rules of the shop for all to enjoy!

Henry
Edward

Meet Edward – he is our newest addition to the bike shop this season. Frequent visits to the shop are planned for the afternoons to offer complimentary cuteness (especially for our young customers). He will be  learning the ropes from his older brother, Henry. You might find him chasing a squeaky ball, keeping the floor warm, or occasionally asking for a belly rub. Stop by and meet the newest, hardest-working member of our team!
