When you opt in to our SMS program, you may receive messages related to appointment reminders and confirmations, customer support responses, automated replies outside business hours, and post-purchase review invitations.
You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP” to us. After you send the SMS message “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Message frequency varies. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.

Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop Rental Policy
Read and agree to the following Terms & Conditions and Rules: We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. We will refund you in full if you cancel your reservation 1 full day prior to pick up time on the first day of your reservation. If you fail to cancel outside of the 24-hour period you will not receive a refund. You must provide a credit card with matching photo ID and a working cell phone number. ALL participants in the party must be present to provide IDs. If you do not have the credit card used for the online booking you will be asked to provide a new credit card with matching ID.
In the event of inclement weather, which would require us to cancel reservations for the day, we will contact you and refund your reservation. We will communicate via text and email if the need arises to cancel due to weather.
For specialty bikes (Road & Gravel Bikes) a security deposit of $500-$1,000 per bike (depending on the bike you choose) will be held on your credit card and released within 24 hours once the bike is returned. IF CHOOSE TO BRING YOUR OWN PEDALS AND WANT TO USE YOUR OWN BIKE SEAT, THERE MAY BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. WE ASK THAT YOU REACH OUT TO US AHEAD OF TIME TO CONFIRM THE COST FOR THIS SERVICE and contact us at RENTAL@BARHARBORBIKE.COM – If you have trouble while riding please call the shop and we will help and/or come rescue you. We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Discover, American Express and Mastercard) as a form of online payment. ONLINE RESERVATIONS are strongly recommended as our bike rental inventory is Live! A valid driver’s license, credit card, active cell phone, and signed online waiver are required with all rentals. Have fun, but please don’t abuse our rental bikes because you are accountable for any damage to the equipment!
Do not remove wheels or attempt to repair your bike if you are not comfortable doing so; your bike may not get put back together safely. If you are renting a car rack, we exercise every caution but damage that occurs to your car from bikes or a rack is at your own risk, as well as damage to the bikes in transit.
Our bikes are not permitted inside any vehicle. This can cause damage to the bike, and we don’t want you to be responsible for anything other than your rental. There are options to ride into the park or use the Island Explorer’s Bicycle Express Shuttle (late June – late September).
Bikes must be returned 60 minutes (ONE HOUR) before closing on the due date. Late return fees apply. You must check in with the staff when you return your bike.
Our E-Bike rentals have a MINIMUM age of 18 years to ride without a parent (proof of age is required). For those individuals who are ages 16 and 17, they are eligible to ride if accompanied by a parent for the day – PROOF OF AGE is required as well as a signed waiver. Multi-Day E-Bike rentals must be returned EACH DAY 60 minutes before closing.
Riders under 16 MUST always wear a helmet on a bicycle (state law), including children in a trailer.
When using our trailers, all children must be at least one-year old and be able to support their own head while wearing a helmet. (If you have additional questions re age and/or weight limitations, please contact us via email at rental@barharborbike.com) The maximum weight in a trailer is 100 pounds. When using our tag-a-longs, children need to be able to reach the pedals, and we highly recommend using this piece of equipment for children 4 to 8 years of age.
New for 2025, Child and Dog trailers CAN be used with an E-Bikes rental. Tag-a-longs cannot be used with E-Bikes, Gravel Bikes or SMALL Basic Pedal Bikes. (PLEASE NOTE: a Deposit of $500 will be placed on DOG TRAILER RENTALS & a $100 deposit will be placed on CHILD TRAILERS).
Child & Dog trailers as well as tag-a-longs CANNOT be used with Gravel or Road bike rentals.
Please obey all rules of the road. DO NOT ride on the sidewalks. Ride single file, with traffic (obey one-way roads), and use hand signals. Let people know when you are passing and yield to pedestrians and horses.
Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop is not responsible for bodily harm during the use of the bicycle. The customer agrees to pay all damages caused to bicycles and/or property. The customer will also agree to pay replacement fees if the bicycle is lost or stolen as well as late fees beginning at $25 for Basic rentals and $50 for e-bikes, Gravel bikes and Road bikes if returned later than 60 minutes before closing. Bikes not returned by closing on the due date are subject to additional late fees up to and including the retail cost of the bike.
